Soon, Parkinson’s disease patients could have an alternative treatment option thanks to technology developed by Insightec, a company backed by Koch Industries. Using focused ultrasound waves in combination with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), Insightec’s noninvasive treatment method targets tissue deep within the brain and could cost as much as four times less than other treatment methods. Currently in clinical trials, this technology could also eventually be used to treat Alzheimer’s patients and even brain tumors.
